Treasurer - Freddie

Freddie has lived in the East Aldine community his entire life. He is a MacArthur high school alum. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Houston.

Freddie served as a teacher at Houston ISD for 23 years. He taught ESL and Social Studies. Freddie made sure to bring issues of social relevance into the classroom. For example, he invited members of the Innocence Project into his classroom to enlighten his students on the issue of wrongful incarceration. This disproportionally effects black and brown communities. He brought presenters from the Women’s Center to discuss fostering healthy relationships. He also brought in guest speakers who were veterans of the Vietnam and Gulf wars.

Freddie’s second career, after his retirement form HISD, is as a paralegal. He assists clients who are seeking residency/citizenship in the United States. He works at Centro Aztlán.

He is a board member of C.I.T.A., Cooperativa Institucional de Trabajadores y Asociaciones de Aztlán.

Freddie’s favorite hobby is genealogy research. He has traced his lineage back to the 1600’s.

One of Freddie’s favorite quotes is, “El saber es poder” in English “In order for us to take control of our own future, we must understand our own past” quote by a “wise elder”.
